| Ex Chaos |
|---|
| This book is a collaboration between me and my mother, a series of 8 poems and 8 paintings based on Japanese creation myths. The primary source material for the poems is Basil Hall Chamberlain's 1883-1906 translation of the Kojiki, the 'Records of Ancient Matters' first written around 712 CE. The poems also collage, quote and misquote traditional and modern Japanese poetry, sound-symbolic words, and my experience of living in Japan. My mother's paintings incorporate the gestural shapes of kanji characters and reference the colour schemes of the Buddhist temples of Kyoto and the Shinto shrines in Miyajima and Tokyo. |

A DeTour is a series of hand-printed postcard poems, based on Daniel Defoe’s A Tour thro’ the Whole Island of
Great Britain (1724-27). The poems cut up and rework selections from Defoe’s book, reformulating his words into
fictitious ‘Postcards from…’ various locations around the UK. If you would like to subscribe to the postcards, please send me an email with your postal address. For £4.50, you will receive 8 postcards through the door at the rate of one every few days. |
